The petition challenging the citizenship of Rahul Gandhi (Congress leader) will now be heard by Justice Manish Mathur at the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court. The next hearing is scheduled for May 7, 2023. The case was brought by S Vignesh Shishir, a BJP worker from Karnataka, who alleges that Gandhi holds both Indian and British citizenship. Shishir's previous petition was dismissed by the MP-MLA court in Lucknow, prompting him to escalate the matter to the high court. During a hearing on April 17, Justice Subhash Vidyarthi initially ordered the state government to register a First Information Report (FIR) against Gandhi. However, he later reversed this decision, stating it was inappropriate to act without notifying Gandhi. Following this, Shishir made several posts on social media about the case, which led to Justice Vidyarthi recusing himself on April 20 due to displeasure over the posts. Shishir has indicated that he has filed another petition related to the same issue, which is expected to be heard next week.
