On Thursday, the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) arrested two individuals, Tushar Chauhan (alias Hizbullah Ali Khan) from Meerut and Sameer Khan from Delhi, in Noida for their alleged connections with Pakistani operatives, including gangsters and the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). The ATS initiated an investigation following intelligence about sleeper cells operating via social media, particularly Instagram. The arrested men were reportedly in contact with Pakistani gangsters Shahzad Bhatti and Abid Jatt, who were attempting to radicalize Indian youths and incite them to conduct reconnaissance on sensitive locations for planned terrorist attacks. During interrogation, Chauhan confessed to establishing contact with Bhatti through Instagram, where he was promised financial incentives for carrying out violent acts. The police recovered a pistol, five cartridges, and a knife from the suspects. A case has been filed against them under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Arms Act, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, with further investigations ongoing to uncover the broader network.
