The stage, covering 142km from Paestum, saw Ballerini outpace Belgium’s Jasper Stuyven (Soudal Quick-Step) in the final sprint. The incident occurred just before the finish line, caused by slippery conditions from light rain, which led to crashes involving Jonathan Milan (Lidl-Trek) and Dylan Groenewegen (Unibet Rose Rockets), among others. Ballerini, who initially did not plan to win, capitalized on the opportunity when he spotted a gap during the chaos. France’s Paul Magnier finished third. As the race continues, Portugal’s Afonso Eulálio (Bahrain Victorious) holds the pink jersey with a lead of two minutes and 51 seconds over Spain’s Igor Arrieta (UAE Team Emirates XRG). The upcoming stage seven promises to be one of the toughest, featuring a 244km route culminating in a 13.6km climb to Blockhaus, potentially setting the stage for a significant move from race favorite Jonas Vingegaard, currently in 15th place, six minutes behind the leader.
