The Congress party and the United Democratic Front (UDF) are preparing to take legal action against the returning officers of the Perambra and Koyilandy Assembly constituencies in Kozhikode district, Kerala. This decision follows allegations of the unauthorized opening of polling material rooms at the JDT Islam Education Complex in Kozhikode city. K. Praveenkumar, the District Congress Committee (DCC) president, expressed concerns over the incident, stating that despite their requests for action against the officials involved, no measures have been taken. He criticized the District Collector, who also serves as the District Election Officer, for permitting the polling materials room to be located adjacent to the strong room housing the electronic voting machines (EVMs). Praveenkumar emphasized that the Chief Electoral Officer had previously issued a directive prohibiting the opening of any rooms in locations where EVMs are stored, following controversies regarding the returning officer for Perambra. However, he claimed that the returning officer for Koyilandy disregarded this order and accessed the premises.
