The funding will allocate over $425 million for upgrades to 13 existing coal-fired power plants, with an additional $185 million to match corporate investments in coal projects located in Alaska, Maryland, and West Virginia. Furthermore, $75 million will be dedicated to the construction of the West Gateway coal export terminal in Northern California. This initiative reflects the administration's ongoing efforts to revitalize coal, which has seen a significant decline in its contribution to electricity generation, dropping from more than 50% in 2000 to below 20% today.
