West Bengal is experiencing a significant political transformation as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has formed its government for the first time since India's Independence. Suvendu Adhikari took oath as the first BJP chief minister of the state, with Governor RN Ravi administering the oath during a ceremony attended by prominent leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi. To celebrate this change, Kolkata's historic Writers' Buildings, which has served as a government hub since its construction in 1780, was illuminated in saffron. This three-storey neoclassical structure, originally built for junior clerks of the East India Company, has played a crucial role in Bengal's governance and history. It was the site of a notable attack by revolutionaries during the freedom struggle in 1930 and has been the administrative center for various chief ministers until Mamata Banerjee moved the secretariat to Nabanna.
