In response to rising tensions along the border with Assam, Meghalaya's Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar announced that additional security forces will be deployed to protect farmers in Lapangap village, located in the West Jaintia Hills district. Farmers have reported harassment and obstruction from individuals on the Karbi side, which has affected their ability to cultivate their land. During a meeting with a delegation of farmers and activists, Dhar assured them that the government is committed to ensuring their safety and maintaining peace. He emphasized that the discussions focused on the livelihood and safety of the villagers, rather than the ongoing interstate boundary dispute. The deployment of security personnel is set to commence immediately to facilitate uninterrupted cultivation. While villagers expressed a high level of satisfaction with the government's assurances, they also called for a stronger security presence, including personnel from the SF-10 force, to address their concerns about nighttime disturbances to their crops.
