Workers at Double Fine, an Xbox game studio known for developing titles such as Psychonauts and Psychonauts 2, have initiated the process to form a union with the Communications Workers of America (CWA). On May 7, they filed a petition with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) to represent all 42 full-time and part-time employees. The workers aim to enhance their commitments to creative excellence, diversity, and worker quality of life. They are requesting voluntary recognition from Microsoft, which has maintained a neutral stance regarding the unionization efforts. This move aligns with a growing trend of unionization among Microsoft-owned game developers, including previous successful efforts by Blizzard Entertainment employees. Double Fine, acquired by Microsoft in 2019, has a rich history spanning nearly two decades in the gaming industry.
