The Delhi Legislative Assembly is set to hold a special session on Tuesday to discuss the Women Reservation Bill, which aims to reserve 33% of Lok Sabha seats for women. This session comes in response to the Congress-led opposition's blockade of the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, 2026, which sought to expand the Lok Sabha from 543 to 850 seats. Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta indicated that the session might last longer than one day, depending on the discussions. The Delhi government plans to introduce a censure motion against the opposition for their actions in the Lok Sabha. Meanwhile, other BJP-led states, including Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Madhya Pradesh, are also convening special sessions to address women's empowerment issues. Notably, the 131st amendment bill was defeated by the opposition, marking the first defeat of a government bill since the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance took power in 2014. Security measures have been heightened at the assembly due to recent bomb threats, ensuring the safety of members and staff during the session.
