The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced plans for a new 130-km expressway corridor between Mumbai and Pune, which is expected to significantly cut travel time to approximately 90 minutes. This project, estimated to cost around Rs 15,000 crore, will consist of an 8-lane high-speed road equipped with modern safety features. The expressway will commence from Chowk in Raigad district, linking to the JNPT corridor, and conclude at Shivare village in Bhor taluka, connecting with the Pune ring road. One of the main objectives is to ease congestion on the current Mumbai-Pune expressway, facilitating faster and safer travel for commuters and goods transport. This new route is anticipated to bolster economic growth by enhancing the logistics network across Maharashtra. The NHAI has initiated the tender process for the detailed project report (DPR), with submissions open until June 24. Additionally, a Rs 4,207-crore elevated corridor is planned to improve traffic flow in Pune's industrial sectors.
