In Uttar Pradesh, a recent crackdown on vehicular noise pollution has led to the issuance of 11,036 challans and the collection of nearly ₹4 crore (approximately $480,000 USD) in penalties. The enforcement action, initiated by A Satish Ganesh (additional director general of traffic), targeted violations such as the use of pressure horns, modified silencers, and illegal honking. The traffic directorate conducted focused drives on April 3-5 and April 18-19, inspecting a total of 213,700 vehicles. During the first drive, 5,277 fines were issued, collecting ₹1.67 crore. The second drive was more intensive, resulting in 5,759 fines and ₹2.29 crore in penalties. The majority of fines came from pressure horn violations, with 6,039 challans contributing ₹2.42 crore to the total amount collected. This initiative reflects a commitment to stricter enforcement under the Motor Vehicles Act, aimed at reducing noise pollution in the state.
