Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit the United Arab Emirates on May 15 to address pressing energy security issues amid rising global fuel concerns due to the ongoing US-Israel conflict affecting oil markets. With India importing over 85% of its crude oil, discussions with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan will center on establishing long-term agreements for crude oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies. The talks aim to enhance India's strategic petroleum reserves, currently at 5.33 million metric tonnes, with plans for an additional 6.5 million metric tonnes. The UAE's recent exit from OPEC is expected to facilitate increased production, making it a reliable supplier for India. Modi's visit will also review progress under the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which has significantly boosted bilateral trade, now India's third-largest trading partner, with a target of $200 billion in trade. The partnership is evolving into a broader energy and investment corridor, moving beyond traditional oil trade.
