He described the situation as 'the largest energy crisis we have ever faced,' with significant implications for the global economy. Birol noted that the crisis is likely to lead to higher prices for petrol, gas, and electricity, affecting economic growth and inflation. He highlighted that countries like Japan, Korea, India, China, Pakistan, and Bangladesh would experience the most severe impacts, particularly poorer nations in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Birol also criticized Iran's 'toll booth' system for ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, cautioning that it could set a dangerous precedent for other critical waterways. He emphasized the need for unconditional oil flow to avoid further complications.
