The Sarv Shakti, a tanker registered under the Marshall Islands, successfully transited the Strait of Hormuz carrying 45,000 tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), a critical fuel for cooking in India. This crossing is significant as it marks the first observed passage by an India-linked vessel since the US imposed a blockade on ships associated with Iran, which has drastically reduced maritime traffic through this vital waterway. The Indian Oil Corporation was identified as the buyer of the LPG cargo, which was transferred off Dubai. Amid ongoing energy shortages, India has ramped up its domestic LPG production by 60%, while daily consumption has decreased by 10,000 tons to 80,000 tons. The Indian government has prioritized the safe passage of LPG carriers, reflecting the urgency of addressing the energy crisis exacerbated by geopolitical tensions in the region.
