The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in India has bolstered its position by merging seven Members of Parliament (MPs) from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) into the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), raising the NDA's total strength to 148 members, including seven nominated MPs. The MPs who joined the BJP are Raghav Chadha, Ashok Kumar Mittal, Harbhajan Singh, Sandeep Kumar Pathak, Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney, Swati Maliwal, and Rajinder Gupta. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju praised the new members for their conduct, stating they have not engaged in abusive language or indiscipline. This merger positions the NDA closer to a two-thirds majority in the Rajya Sabha, which requires 163 seats. The BJP anticipates gaining additional seats as over 30 Rajya Sabha positions are expected to become vacant later this year, further strengthening their parliamentary influence.
