England women's cricket captain Nat Sciver-Brunt has been ruled out of the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand due to a minor left calf tear. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) described the decision as a precautionary measure, with Sciver-Brunt's fitness to be evaluated before the T20 International matches against New Zealand, which are part of England's preparation for the T20 World Cup in June. In her absence, vice-captain Charlie Dean has been recalled to the ODI squad, while Maia Bouchier has been called up as cover. Sciver-Brunt sustained the injury while playing for The Blaze in a recent Metro Bank Cup victory over Warwickshire, where she scored 47 runs and took 2 wickets. Following scans, a period of rest has been advised for her recovery.
