D Sudhakar, the Planning and Statistics Minister of Karnataka and a senior leader of the Indian National Congress, died at the age of 66 in Bengaluru after suffering severe lung complications following a knee surgery. Hospital authorities reported that he had been undergoing treatment at the Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) in Electronic City for nearly a month before his passing on May 10. Sudhakar was initially treated at Manipal Hospital, but complications led to his transfer to KIMS for advanced care. He was known for his significant contributions to the Hiriyur Assembly constituency and his close ties with Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar. Sudhakar's political career spanned over two decades, during which he served in various capacities, including as Social Welfare Minister and later as a Congress party member. He was recognized for his efforts in drought relief, particularly in arranging fodder for farmers. His death has prompted an outpouring of tributes from political leaders, who acknowledged his dedication to public service and the impact he made in his community. Sudhakar is survived by his wife, Harshini, and their two children.
