He argues that federal payments would not lead to inflation, stating that AI and robotics will produce goods and services beyond the increase in money supply. However, this idea has faced criticism from economists like Sanjeev Sanyal, who believes it could lead to government bankruptcy and that AI will create new job opportunities. Pratyush Rai, CEO of Merlin AI, also expressed skepticism, highlighting the economic competition that would arise from everyone receiving high income checks. On the other hand, Andrew Yang, who previously advocated for a similar concept of Universal Basic Income (UBI), showed cautious support for Musk's proposal, suggesting that AI could facilitate such income. The concept of universal high income (UHI) represents a shift from UBI, as it implies a move away from the necessity of work altogether.
