Memory module prices are anticipated to experience a moderation in their growth, providing much-needed relief to consumer electronics manufacturers. According to projections from South Korean market research firm Sigmaintell, price increases are expected to slow to 30-50% in the second quarter of 2026, down from a staggering 70% surge in the first quarter. The second half of the year is projected to see a further reduction in price hikes to 5-20%, with prices stabilizing at elevated levels by year-end.
Taiwan-based Trendforce also forecasts a sequential rise of 45-50% in dynamic random access memory (DRAM) prices for the June quarter, following a 75-80% increase in the first three months of 2026. This moderation in price growth is attributed to a softening demand for consumer electronics, such as smartphones and personal computers, amid rising end-consumer prices.
Despite this positive outlook, supply shortages are expected to persist until at least 2027, as Chinese memory manufacturers work to enhance their production capacities. Industry analysts suggest that consumer electronics companies are entering long-term agreements with memory suppliers to secure fixed prices and volumes, providing a buffer against future price volatility. Sigmaintell notes that while prices for legacy DDR4 memory are set to narrow, high-end DDR5 modules still have potential for further increases.
