Tara Ghafouri, a junior at Phoenix Country Day School in Arizona, has taken a stand against bullying by writing a children's book titled 'What’s In Your Lunchbox?'. Drawing from her own experiences as an Iranian-American student, Ghafouri faced hurtful comments about her traditional Iranian food. Motivated by her cousin's similar experiences, she created a story about a young girl named Rana, who navigates cultural differences and bullying at her new school. The book encourages acceptance and pride in one’s heritage. Ghafouri illustrated the book herself and self-published it through Amazon, donating the proceeds to the Arizona Persian Cultural Center. The center plans to use the funds to enhance its children's programming, emphasizing the importance of addressing bullying. Ghafouri has conducted book readings and events, finding fulfillment in connecting with children who relate to Rana's story. She hopes to inspire others to share their narratives and plans to continue her writing journey while pursuing her education. Ghafouri's efforts highlight the significance of cultural pride and the impact of literature in combating prejudice.
