The Gujarat government, led by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, has initiated the 'Atalwadi Yojana' to improve village infrastructure and enhance the quality of life for residents. Announced during a State Cabinet meeting on May 20, the scheme aims to construct community centers, known as 'Atalwadi', in villages with populations over 2,000. Each center will accommodate up to 500 people and will feature essential facilities such as a large open hall, kitchen, separate toilets for men and women, and access to clean drinking water. This initiative is designed to provide affordable venues for social events, including marriages and religious functions, thereby saving costs for poor and middle-class families. Furthermore, these centers will serve as 'Shelter Homes' during natural disasters, providing a safe haven for villagers in emergencies. The construction will utilize public lands, ensuring equal access for all villagers, fostering social harmony. The Gujarat government has allocated a budget of ₹60 crores (approximately $7.2 million USD) for this project in the current financial year.
