The English Football League (EFL) clubs have decided not to adopt a video assistant referee (VAR) challenge system in the Championship for the next season. The proposal, known as Football Video Support (FVS), was introduced by the Professional Game Match Officials at the EFL's annual meeting in March. Under this system, managers would have been allowed two reviews per match, with referees able to consult different camera angles at a pitchside monitor. However, following a survey, the majority of clubs expressed opposition to the system. Goalline technology, which is currently the only form of technology used outside the Premier League, will continue in the Championship and may be extended to League One after a vote on proposals in June. A recent survey conducted by the Football Supporters’ Association found that 75.71% of fans oppose VAR, with over 90% agreeing that it has negatively affected the enjoyment of goal celebrations.
