In a tragic incident on Wednesday, a Tri-Rail commuter train collided with a 2021 Chevrolet Trax SUV in Broward County, Florida, resulting in the death of the SUV driver. The accident occurred around 10 a.m. near the 1500 block of West Oakland Park Boulevard when the driver, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, approached a railroad crossing with safety arms already lowered. Investigators reported that the driver initially slowed down but then accelerated under the crossing gate, directly into the train's path. The impact was described as a 'T-bone' collision, with the train striking the driver's side of the SUV. The force of the collision dragged the vehicle approximately 1,300 feet before it finally came to a stop. Authorities are currently working to notify the driver's family as the investigation continues. Tri-Rail, which connects Miami International Airport to Mangonia Park in Palm Beach County, has seen a surge in ridership in recent weeks, attributed to events at Nu Stadium, including Inter Miami soccer matches.
