Himanta Biswa Sarma was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Assam for the second consecutive term, becoming the first non-Congress leader to achieve this milestone. The oath-taking ceremony took place in Guwahati, where Sarma was joined by four newly appointed ministers: Rameswar Teli and Ajanta Neog from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Atul Bora and Charan Boro from alliance partners Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF). Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other prominent leaders attended the ceremony, celebrating the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance's (NDA) third successive government in the state. Sarma expressed his gratitude to the people of Assam during this emotional moment. The NDA secured a significant mandate with 102 seats in the 126-member assembly, comprising 82 from BJP, 10 from AGP, and 10 from BPF. The opposition, including Congress and others, won a total of 22 seats. The government has pledged to implement a Uniform Civil Code, combat “land jihad” and “love jihad,” and enhance welfare schemes, including increasing the monthly financial assistance for women from ₹1,250 (approximately $15 USD) to ₹3,000 (approximately $36 USD).
