The Andhra Pradesh government has launched a significant recruitment drive to fill 1,523 teaching faculty posts across 19 universities, including 18 State Public Universities and the Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT). This initiative aims to enhance the quality of higher education in the state, as currently only 972 out of 4,343 sanctioned teaching posts are filled. The recruitment includes roles such as Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors, and Lecturers, with 1,244 regular vacancies and 279 backlog vacancies reserved for Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), and Backward Classes (BCs). Applications will be accepted online from May 18 to June 8, 2026, through a newly introduced Common Recruitment Portal, which allows candidates to apply to multiple universities simultaneously. The recruitment process is expected to be completed within three to six months and will involve a screening test by the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) for Assistant Professor posts if the number of applicants exceeds 12 per vacancy. The government will also provide additional marks for contractual faculty and implement reservations for women, persons with disabilities, ex-servicemen, and meritorious sportspersons. HRD Minister Nara Lokesh emphasized that this recruitment is a crucial investment in academic excellence and the future of Andhra Pradesh.
