In a troubling incident, several synagogues and homes in the Forest Hills neighborhood of Queens, New York, were vandalized overnight with swastikas. City Council Speaker Julie Menin and other council members, including Lynn Schulman and Phil Wong, visited the affected sites, including Congregation Machane Chodosh. Menin expressed her dismay, stating that congregants were met with symbols of hatred instead of their usual supportive community. Photos shared online depicted black swastikas spray-painted on synagogue walls and other properties. The police are currently investigating the vandalism and searching for at least four individuals involved. Menin assured that the graffiti will be removed once the investigation concludes. This incident follows a previous case in January when two teenagers were arrested in Brooklyn for similar hate crimes, which prompted condemnation from Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who emphasized that antisemitism has no place in New York City.
