Foreign medical graduate (FMG) students protested outside the Delhi Medical Council (DMC) office in East Delhi, alleging that their compulsory internships have been halted for nearly a month due to funding issues within the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). These internships are essential for FMGs to qualify for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Postgraduate (NEET PG) exam and to practice medicine in India. The students claimed that MCD officials cited a lack of funds to pay stipends as the reason for the suspension of their internships. According to the National Medical Commission (NMC), stipends are mandatory for all interns, including FMGs. The NMC had previously issued an order stating that stipends must be paid as a matter of right. However, the MCD announced on April 23 that all internship postings for FMGs were canceled due to administrative reasons and pending clarification from the Supreme Court. Health Minister Pankaj Singh acknowledged the issue and stated that a review meeting has been called to find a solution. As of now, neither the DMC nor the MCD has provided comments regarding the situation.
