Riyan Parag, the captain of Rajasthan Royals, has been penalized by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for vaping in the team's dressing room during an IPL 2026 match in Mullanpur, Punjab, India. Following a live broadcast showing him vaping, Parag admitted to the offense, resulting in a 25% fine of his match fee and a demerit point on his disciplinary record. Vaping is illegal in India, where first-time offenders can face fines of ₹1 lakh (approximately $1,200 USD) and/or imprisonment for up to one year. BCCI stated that Parag breached Article 2.21 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which addresses conduct that brings the game into disrepute. Head coach Kumar Sangakkara acknowledged the negative impact of such incidents on team morale and stressed the need for players to uphold the team's culture. This incident marks the second disciplinary issue for the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2026, following a previous fine imposed on team manager Romi Bhinder for using a mobile phone in the dugout. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that the board is also exploring potential actions against the franchise itself.
