The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB) is set to eliminate 69 non-teaching positions by August 31, 2026, as it grapples with an $11.5 million budget deficit for the 2025-26 school year. This decision is part of the board's Student-Focused Resource Optimization Project, which aims to assess and enhance resources impacting student achievement and well-being. OCDSB supervisor Robert Plamondon emphasized the need to streamline administration while remaining focused on students. In addition to the non-teaching cuts, the board will also reduce 83 teaching positions and two principal and vice-principal roles due to declining enrolment, which is projected to drop by 766 students in elementary schools and 938 students in secondary schools for the 2026-27 school year. These staffing reductions are expected to be managed through normal attrition rates.
