Nitu Samra has been appointed as the interim CEO of Noida International Airport in Uttar Pradesh, India, following the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security's (BCAS) denial of Christoph Schnellmann's continuation in the role due to nationality requirements. The BCAS mandates that the CEO of greenfield airports in India must be an Indian national, a rule that Schnellmann, a Swiss national, could not comply with. This decision was reinforced by the Union home ministry's refusal to amend the regulations to allow foreign nationals to hold such positions, emphasizing the importance of security in air operations. Samra, who has been the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Noida International Airport since October 2021, has been instrumental in overseeing the airport's financial and strategic planning. Schnellmann will transition to the role of executive vice chairman on the airport's board, continuing to support the project as it moves towards operational readiness. The Noida International Airport, developed by Yamuna International Airport Pvt Ltd (YIAPL), a subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG, is scheduled to commence operations in March 2026, following its inauguration by the Prime Minister. This management change is expected to facilitate a smooth transition into operations while adhering to BCAS guidelines.
