Walmart has issued a recall for approximately 50,000 adjustable dumbbells after federal safety officials reported injuries linked to the product. The FitRx SmartBell Quick-Select 5-52.5 lb. Adjustable Dumbbells, manufactured by Tzumi Electronics based in New York, have been found to have a defect where the weight plates can dislodge from the handle during use, creating an impact hazard. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) received over 115 reports of this issue, resulting in at least six reported injuries, which include broken toes, bruises, contusions, and lacerations. The recalled dumbbells, identified as model 8361, were sold at Walmart for about $100 from January through November 2024. Consumers are advised to stop using the dumbbells immediately and to contact Tzumi Electronics for a free replacement. Instructions for marking the product as recalled and registering for a replacement can be found on the CPSC's website.
