Karnataka's Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Priyank Kharge announced that the state government will conduct gram panchayat elections before the end of 2026. He confirmed that the deadline for filing objections regarding gram panchayat delimitation has concluded, paving the way for the elections. Following the gram panchayat elections, elections for taluk and zilla panchayats will also take place. Addressing the issue of drinking water scarcity in Kalaburagi district, Kharge stated that there is no shortage of funds for water supply projects, with each district receiving ₹5 crore for management. Additionally, the Kalyana Karnataka Region Development Board has sanctioned ₹17.3 crore for related works. Task forces led by MLAs are overseeing the implementation of drinking water initiatives. Kharge also mentioned discussions with Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar regarding the release of water from the Bhima river to alleviate summer shortages. Regarding the expansion of the State Cabinet, he indicated that decisions will be made by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and party leadership at an appropriate time.
