Himanta Biswa Sarma has been unanimously named the Chief Minister of Assam by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Bodoland Peoples Front (BPF), following a successful Assembly election campaign. The BJP won 82 seats out of 126, achieving an absolute majority, while AGP and BPF secured 10 seats each, bringing their total to 102 MLAs. During a meeting held at the BJP state headquarters in Guwahati, Sarma's candidacy was supported by all 82 BJP legislators, with additional endorsements from AGP and BPF. Sarma expressed gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other party leaders for their support and leadership. The formal process to claim the government will occur at Lok Bhawan with Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya. The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for May 12, 2021, in Guwahati, with an anticipated attendance of around 200,000 people, including various dignitaries and leaders from BJP-ruled states.
