The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has named Shreyas Iyer as the new T20I captain, replacing Suryakumar Yadav, who led India to a historic ICC Men's T20 World Cup victory earlier this year. Under Yadav's leadership, India became the first team to defend the T20 World Cup title on home soil. Following the announcement, Yadav expressed his support for the new squad and congratulated 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who received his first national call-up after an impressive IPL season. Sooryavanshi was the leading run-scorer in IPL 2026, amassing 776 runs at a remarkable strike rate of 237.30. He also set a record with 72 sixes during the tournament. India is set to begin their limited-overs assignments with a T20I series against Ireland on June 26 and 28, followed by a five-match T20I series in England from July 1 to 11, and Sooryavanshi will also compete in the upcoming 2026 Asian Games in Japan.
