India's coffee exports experienced a significant increase of 26.6%, reaching 1.74 lakh tonne in the January-April 2026 period, compared to 1.37 lakh tonne during the same time last year. The total export value also rose to ₹936.57 crore from ₹757.07 crore, reflecting a strong demand for robusta and instant coffee varieties. Notably, robusta exports surged by 36% to 85,168 tonne, while instant coffee shipments rose to 20,332 tonne. However, arabica exports saw a sharp decline of 58%, dropping to 30,589 tonne. Experts suggest that India's coffee sector is entering a pivotal phase, with a projected output of 4,03,000 tonne for the 2025-26 season, driven by favorable conditions in major producing states like Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu. Despite these positive trends, concerns about weather volatility and climate risks persist.
