Hamza Burhan, known as the mastermind behind the 2019 Pulwama terror attack that killed over 40 CRPF personnel, was recently killed in Muzaffarabad, Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Following his death, his family in Ratnipora, Pulwama, publicly distanced themselves from his actions, stating they have not been in contact with him since he traveled to Pakistan in January 2018 for medical studies. Burhan's father, Gulzar Ahmed Dar, expressed that the family has endured immense hardship due to his terrorist activities, which have led to the imprisonment of two of his brothers. One brother, Shahid Gulzar, was arrested and has been detained since March 2022, while another brother, Arif Gulzar, a PhD scholar, is unable to secure a government position due to his brother's designation as a terrorist. The family hopes that with Burhan's death, they can return to a normal life and are appealing for the release of their imprisoned son. Burhan was killed by unidentified gunmen, and his death is part of a broader pattern of targeted assassinations of anti-India terror commanders in the region.
