The Delhi government is taking significant steps to improve tree transplantation in the national capital by issuing an Expression of Interest (EoI) to empanel qualified agencies. These agencies must be equipped with specialized machinery, trained personnel, and scientific expertise to handle all aspects of tree transplantation, including feasibility assessments and post-transplant maintenance. A critical requirement is ensuring an 80% survival rate for transplanted trees over a one-year monitoring period, with penalties for non-compliance. This initiative arises from concerns about low survival rates, prompting the government to commission a scientific study to analyze survival trends and enhance outcomes. Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa highlighted the introduction of advanced tree transplanter machines from abroad to minimize transplant shock. Additionally, the government is focusing on stronger oversight and detailed data collection on transplanted trees to inform future policies.
