On Friday, Melania Trump announced the expansion of the White House honey program by introducing a new beehive shaped like the White House. This new hive will complement the two existing beehives, which have been in place since 2009 and can support up to 70,000 bees during peak summer months, producing between 200 to 225 pounds (91 to 102 kilograms) of honey annually. The new addition is projected to increase honey production by an additional 30 pounds (13.6 kilograms). This announcement coincides with the upcoming state visit of Britain's King Charles III and Queen Camilla, both known advocates for beekeeping and environmental sustainability. The honey produced is utilized in official meals, gifts, and donations to food kitchens, while also aiding in the pollination of gardens established during Michelle Obama's tenure as First Lady. Funding for the new hive was provided by the Trust for the National Mall, with the design and construction carried out by White House staff and a Virginia artisan.
