Panchkula has seen only three approved dog-bite compensation cases since the Punjab and Haryana High Court set compensation norms two and a half years ago, despite approximately 25,000 reported incidents. At a recent meeting of the district-level committee under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Antyodaya Parivar Suraksha Yojana (DAYALU-II), three out of seventeen cases were approved, while eight were deferred due to incomplete medical information, and four were rejected as they did not meet the scheme's conditions. The approved beneficiaries received varying compensation amounts: Mohit Gupta received ₹10,000, Rahul Sharma ₹40,000, and Nisha Sood ₹50,000, all based on injury severity. Officials have identified significant gaps in medical reporting and have directed the chief medical officer to conduct training for doctors to enhance clarity in injury assessments. Gupta highlighted that a lack of awareness about the claims process is a major obstacle, as victims often do not know how to file claims correctly within the stipulated 90-day period.
