The Supreme Court of India expressed strong disapproval of the Madhya Pradesh government's delay in granting sanction to prosecute state minister Kunwar Vijay Shah for his derogatory remarks about Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, who had addressed the media during Operation Sindoor. Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi stated that the decision regarding the Special Investigation Team's (SIT) request should have been made weeks ago. The SIT was formed following a directive from the Supreme Court to investigate Shah's comments, which included calling Colonel Qureshi a 'sister of terrorists.' The court demanded immediate compliance with its order and highlighted the necessity of an apology from Shah. The Solicitor General argued that Shah's remarks were misinterpreted, suggesting he intended to praise Colonel Qureshi. However, the court found this argument unconvincing, noting Shah's experience as a politician should have allowed him to articulate his praise appropriately. The Supreme Court had previously taken cognizance of the matter after the Madhya Pradesh High Court initiated the investigation.
