On Thursday, leaders from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party were once again barred from meeting their founder, Imran Khan, at Adiala jail, despite a ruling from the Islamabad High Court (IHC) allowing such visits twice a week. The PTI had submitted a list of six leaders to the jail authorities, including Seemabia Tahir and Usman Jora, who arrived early but were denied entry. The prison officials recorded their presence but stated they were awaiting approval for the meeting. Frustrated by the continuous restrictions, the PTI leaders plan to file a contempt petition. Sheikh Waqas Akram, PTI Information Secretary, condemned the government's actions as fascist, claiming they are using discriminatory tactics to suppress the party ahead of elections in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. He warned that these actions could create divisions in sensitive areas. Imran Khan has been serving a 14-year sentence for corruption since August 2023, and his family has also faced barriers in meeting him, further emphasizing the ongoing political tensions.
