Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma allocated portfolios to four ministers in his newly formed cabinet, two days after his swearing-in for a second consecutive term. The announcement was made through a note from Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya. Rameshwar Teli, a new addition from the tea-tribe community, has been assigned the departments of transformation and development, labour welfare, and tea-tribes and Adivasi welfare. Ajanta Neog, the only woman minister in the cabinet, will oversee tourism and women and child development, having previously managed the finance portfolio. Atul Bora, president of the Asom Gana Parishad, has been allocated responsibilities for panchayat and rural development, implementation of the Assam Accord, border protection and development, and excise. Charan Boro from the Bodoland Peoples’ Front retains his previous portfolios of transport and welfare of the Bodoland region. Chief Minister Sarma has yet to disclose which departments he will keep under his charge, as convention dictates that unallocated departments remain with the chief minister. A cabinet expansion is anticipated in early June 2023 following the first session of the newly elected Assembly.
