Community Boating Inc. (CBI), a Boston-based organization dedicated to making sailing accessible for youth, is launching its first-ever 24-hour Sail-a-thon from June 20 to June 21. This event, which will take place between the Massachusetts Avenue and Longfellow bridges, aims to raise funds for CBI's junior and adaptive sailing programs. Executive Director Kate Ferris highlighted the organization's commitment to inclusivity, stating that they offer a $1 membership and a sliding scale for children aged 10-17, with fees reaching up to $450 for a 10-week sailing season. Sam Peirson, the director of operations, emphasized their mission: "We're sailing for all, and we take the all part very seriously." While participants must know how to sail, they do not need to be CBI members to join the Sail-a-thon. The event promises to be a unique opportunity for experienced sailors to enjoy the waters of Boston while supporting a good cause. CBI has been a vital resource in the community, providing sailing education and opportunities for children who might not otherwise have access to the sport.
