Tom Green, a 60-year-old retired businessman from Maryland, has embarked on a remarkable journey by enrolling at McDaniel College and joining the football team as a freshman walk-on. After being diagnosed with stage four kidney cancer in 2015, Green faced a life-threatening situation with multiple tumors in his body. Miraculously, he was declared cancer-free in 2018, which reignited his passion for life and sports. Having previously played semi-pro football, he decided to pursue his dream of playing at the collegiate level. His teammates initially thought his recruitment was a joke, but they have come to appreciate the inspiration he brings to the team. Green is set to debut on the defensive line in the upcoming fall season and aims to become the oldest person to play college football if he participates through his 62nd birthday. He hopes to leave lasting memories with his teammates, emphasizing that life is short and the camaraderie in football is irreplaceable.
