The Karnataka State Municipal Corporation Employees’ Association has issued a warning to the Urban Development Department about a potential state-wide strike in June if their long-standing demands are not addressed. The association's primary demands include amending the General Appointment Rules of Municipal Corporations, 2011, to classify municipal employees as government employees, and the establishment of group insurance and provident fund facilities for municipal officers and employees. In a letter dated May 8, the association expressed frustration over the government's inaction despite multiple petitions submitted over the years. Previously, a strike was initiated on July 8, 2025, but was called off after assurances from the Urban Development Minister that demands would be met within six months. However, nearly a year later, the association claims that none of these promises have been fulfilled. A meeting of the association's office-bearers is scheduled for May 24 to decide on the next steps regarding the strike.
