A businessman from Kulai has reported losing over RM470,000 to a loan scam that lasted several months. According to Kulai district police chief Assistant Commissioner Tan Seng Lee, the 37-year-old victim sought a RM500,000 loan and was approached by a woman who claimed she could help with the application. Between June 30, 2025, and February 16, 2026, the victim made 191 transactions amounting to RM478,093 into a local bank account, believing he was paying for legitimate loan-related fees. Payments included charges for CTOS checks, stamp duty, and other documentation fees. However, upon checking with the bank, he found that no loan application had been filed in his name, prompting him to report the incident to the police. The case is currently under investigation for cheating, and ACP Tan has warned the public to be cautious of quick loan offers and to verify such proposals with banks before making any payments. He also encouraged the use of online resources from the Commercial Crime Investigation Department for reporting scams and obtaining information on fraud schemes.
