In a significant crackdown on cybercrime, Dutch financial crime investigators (FIOD) arrested two men and seized 800 servers from Stark Industries, a web hosting company implicated in facilitating cyberattacks and disinformation campaigns. The arrests included a 57-year-old director of Stark Industries and a 39-year-old head of a firm providing internet connectivity. Authorities allege that these individuals indirectly supported Russian and Belarusian entities sanctioned by the European Union (EU) for undermining democracy and security. Stark Industries, founded on February 10, 2022, shortly before Russia's invasion of Ukraine, was added to the EU sanctions list on May 20, 2022. Following the sanctions, the company’s infrastructure was transferred to WorkTitans B.V., which is suspected of acting as a front for the sanctioned entities. Investigators conducted raids in multiple locations, including Dronten and Schiphol-Rijk, and uncovered connections to the pro-Russian hacktivist group NoName057(16), known for its distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks. While Mirhosting, which provided server operations, denied any wrongdoing, the investigation highlights the ongoing threat posed by cybercriminal networks.
