Nolensville is set to host its inaugural Juneteenth gathering on June 20, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., at Historic Sunset Park, located at 1670 Sunset Road. This event, organized by Kimi Brown, Friends of Mocha Nolo, and Mason Health Collaborative, LLC, is designed to celebrate freedom, culture, and the local history of the park. Historically, Sunset Park was a significant venue for Black families during segregation, hosting picnics, baseball games, and community gatherings. It was also associated with notable figures such as Theodore “Ted” Rhodes, the first Black professional golfer, and Woodrow Williams, a former professional baseball player. Despite not being actively used for decades, the park's legacy remains vital to Nolensville's community identity. The event aims to honor this heritage by fostering connections across generations and backgrounds, encouraging participants to celebrate their shared history and culture.
