Joe Kriesberg, the chief executive of MassINC, is leading the nonprofit's mission to address income inequality and support the middle class in Massachusetts. The organization, which has expanded its staff by six since Kriesberg's arrival in early 2023, is divided into three main areas: an online newsroom called CommonWealth Beacon, a policy center, and a polling group. Upcoming initiatives include the launch of Massachusetts' version of Gigafacts, which will feature 150-word fact briefs aimed at debunking misinformation, and a leadership training program for Gateway City leaders. MassINC operates with a $4.5 million annual budget, primarily funded through grants and donations, and continues to focus on its founding mission of ensuring economic opportunities for all. Kriesberg emphasizes the importance of understanding the challenges of income inequality to effectively address them.
