Adair Fish, a mother from Kansas City, has been committed to the Department of Mental Health after pleading not guilty by reason of insanity regarding the death of her 4-year-old daughter, Ivy House. Ivy was found dead in their apartment in November 2022, with her body severely malnourished and decomposing. Alongside this tragic discovery, her twin sister was also found in a critical state, malnourished and unresponsive. The Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that the court accepted Fish's insanity plea following mental health evaluations. Police reports detailed the deplorable conditions of their home, which was filled with trash and debris, contributing to the grim atmosphere. Fish had called 911 to report Ivy's death, stating that one of her daughters had been dead for an extended time. The twins had previously been removed from Fish's custody but were returned in late 2019. Neighbors reported that Fish became increasingly isolated during the pandemic, raising concerns about the children's welfare.
